Party favours (or bonbonniere) are a lovely way to thank guests for sharing your special moment. Over the years I have tried many different party favours depending on the event – weddings, engagements, christenings, kids parties, adult parties. To help you sort out your next party favour, I have collated my favourite recipes which can be adapted for any party! I’ve also included a dairy free/vegan (healthier) option as well.
These salts are great little party favours as they are easy to make and something your guests can take away and use at home. The type of salt you use is really up to you – there’s no right or wrong. Coarse salt adds a visual effect when sprinkled over dishes just before serving while finely ground salt is more useful in recipes.
Here are a few of my fave recipes!
3/4 cup of your fave salt
1 tablespoon dried chill flakes
1 tablespoon lime zest
Lay zest on a towel and allow to air dry for a few hours then combine with salt and chilli flakes. Pour salt into a pretty jar with lid*.
Roasted Garlic Salt
1 head of garlic
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 cup of your fave salt
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Place the garlic on foil and drizzle with olive oil. Wrap up the garlic and place in the oven. Cook for about 30-40 minutes until the garlic cloves are soft. Allow to cool.
Once the garlic has cooled, squeeze out the roasted garlic and stir into the salt. You can use a fork or your fingers but the aim is to gently mix the salt and garlic together and to break up the salt as much as possible.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Place the garlic salt mixture in the oven to dry out for about 20-30 minutes. Allow to cool. Once the moisture has been removed and it has cooled use a fork to break up the salt. Package in small jars with lids*.
Rosemary & Smoked Paprika Salt
¼ cup of your fave salt
¾ tsp dried rosemary
¾ tsp smoked paprika
Mix together the salt, rosemary and smoked paprika. Transfer to small jars with lids*.
Everyone LOVES caramel sauce. This treat is perfect for ice cream, waffles, drizzle cake, milkshakes or anything else sweet! Your guests will love you long time for gifting them with this party favour!
1 1/2 cups caster sugar
1/2 cup water
1 cup pure cream
1 1/2 tablespoons salted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
Combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat and stir. Bring the mixture to a boil keep stirring until it turns a medium amber colour. This should take 12 to 15 minutes. If sugar crystals gather along the sides of the pan just brush them down.
Remove the pan from heat and pour in the cream. It will bubble up so just be careful. Give it a whisk, then add in the butter, vanilla and salt. Whisk again until everything is nice and smooth. It should be the colour of caramel. Cool it in the pan, or pour it into a large measuring cup so that it will be easier to transfer to jars when cooled and cover with lid.
Divide the sauce evenly among your pretty jars*. Place lids and refrigerate until ready to gift to your friends or family. The sauce must be kept refrigerated and it will stay fresh for 2 to 3 weeks.
Nothing beats a melt in the mouth sugar cookie. They last for weeks and taste #totes #amazeballs. Wrap them up in a pretty gift bag or box and give them as little pressies to your friends, work mates or family. These cookies are perfect as party favours! Grab my amazing recipe here.

Packaging ready-made baking mixes in jars for is on trend at the moment. These favours would be great at kids’ parties!
1 3/4 cups plain flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup caster sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
1 litre mason jar with lid (you can find these quite cheaply on e-bay or amazon or even in the $2 shops).
Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in small bowl. Place mixture in your jar. To ensure the mixture sits pretty, use the back of a spoon to pack the flour mixture down. Add the brown sugar next using the same method to pack it down in the jar. Then add the caster sugar and pack. Finally add the choc chips and close the jar.
You will need to give your guests instructions! Here’s the recipe! You can make cute little tags or print it on stickers and stick on the jar. Or, even just print and place in an envelope.
